A Devotion
“The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. “Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.” David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.””
2 Samuel 12:1-6 NIV
King David, saw a lady taking a shower while walking on top of his roof. Although he had many wives, lust led him into an affair with this married woman. When she became pregnant, he schemed to kill her husband. So instead of confessing he committed murder to cover his adultery.
If we don’t confess our sins and repent, we’ll end up living in them and eventually become insensitive to the Holy Spirit ~ that’s what leads to backsliding and exactly where David was.
So God sent Nathan to the king to remind him that his sins were before the Lord.
Everybody needs a Nathan. Someone who loves us enough to tell us the truth and help draw us back to God. So when your attention is drawn to anything~ pride, attitude, lies, lukewarmness, or any kind of sin ~ that could be the only opportunity to repent so take it and run back to God because He’s always ready to forgive you and give you another chance to get on track.
“Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.”
Psalms 141:5 NIV
